Amy Williams won Team GB's only gold medal of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games in skeleton bobsleigh at her debut Olympic Winter Games.

In winning gold Williams became Team GB’s first individual Olympic Winter Games gold medallist for 30 years and the first woman individual gold medallist for 58 years.

Williams' career has revolved around the city of Bath. It’s where she grew up and went to school, college and university, and it’s now where her sporting career is based as part of the skeleton team.

Her career began with a trial go on the skeleton push track before Amy entered the World Push Championships in 2002. She won a silver medal, and never looked back despite “not really liking it” when she first went down the track.

Last year brought a silver medal in the World Championship and another silver in the World Cup race in Whistler.

When not competing, Amy is very artistic and enjoys painting and creative art in her spare time, having put on exhibitions of her work.

Thanks to her hair, she is known as “Curly Wurly”.
