Fiona Hughes represented Team GB in cross-country skiing at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The Vancouver Games were Hughes's debut Olympic Winter Games. She placed 68th in the 10km individual freestyle.
Hughes was inspired to take up cross-country skiing by parents who both excelled at the sport.
She is one day older than team-mate Andrew Musgrave, and celebrated her 20th birthday shortly after the Closing Ceremony – another sign of the seam of youth that goes through the cross-country team.
Hughes's first victory in an international even came in the Junior championship race in Bruksvallarna at the end of 2009. It’s a far cry from her first go on skis when, at the age of eight, her mother told her “just steer clear of the trees”. She promptly skied straight into one.
