Gillian Cooke represented Team GB at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games alongside Nicola Minichiello in the women's bobsleigh. The Vancouver Games were Cooke's first Olympic Winter Games. Cooke and Minichiello were placed 10th after their first two runs, however, a crash in the third run left Cooke with an injured leg and damage to their sled they did not compete in the forth run.
Prior to becoming 2009 bobsleigh World Champion, Cooke was an extremely talented athlete, she had competed at a high level in pole vault, long jump, 60m sprint and 100m. However, after spotting a facebook advert she trialled out as breakman for Nicola Minichiello, and six months later they were World Champions.
As an athlete, Gillian competed in two Commonwealth Games in two different events – in pole vault in 2002, and then in the long jump four years later.
Her favourite film is The Shawshank Redemption.
