John Kerr along with sister Sinead Kerr have been the top British Ice Dance pairing since 2003, having begun to partner each other in 2000, and have won six consecutive British Ice Dance titles since 2003. Kerr/Kerr represented Team GB at their second Olympic Games at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, placing eighth.

Kerr/Kerr have already had a very successful season, they won bronze at the 2009 Europeans Championships and recently qualifed for the World Cup Grand Prix Final in Japan for the first time. They also retained the Finlandia trophy for the second year, along with placing first in Sheffield at the IJS, placing second at the NHK Trophy in Japan and third at the Trophee Eric Bompard in France.

Kerr/Kerr made their Olympic debut at Turin 2006 Olympic Games where they used Scottish music composed by the Porridgemen for their free dance programme. They finished 10th at the Olympic Winter Games and 11th at the World Championship in the same year.

After the 2005/06 season they swapped coaches moving from long-time coach Joan Slater to double Olympic Ice Dance Champion Evgeni Platov (the Russian won titles in 1994 and 1998). In 2005 they have trained with 1984 Olympic Ice Dance champion Christopher Dean and were invited to spend time with him in Colorado in the summer of 2005.

In 2006 they won their first gold in an overseas tournament when they won the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorff, Germany.

Kerr began skating at the age of eight. Before teaming up with his sister John was an individual skater and used to finance his skating with acting jobs, once working as a double for Scottish footballer Ally McCoist.

Like his sister, Kerr is left footed and left handed, but always puts on his right boot first. He speasks both French and Italian and considers himself a sports buff, with a depth of trivia knowledge!
