Alcott Equals Olympic Best Performance With 11th Place

Chemmy Alcott equalled her best Olympic Winter Games performance when she finished 11th in today’s (Thursday) Alpine super combined competition at Whistler Creekside.
The 27-year-old Londoner produced an impressive slalom to climb seven places after what she described as a poor downhill.
Alcott attacked the downhill but could only produce the 18th fastest time of 1:27.06, putting her 2.90 seconds behind the leader.
Alcott, who is representing Team GB at her third Olympic Winter Games, knew she had left herself with lots of work to do in the slalom.
"It wasn't ideal. I was trying to be aggressive. I thought it was a tactic that would work on the icy course today, but I was just catching everywhere," she said. "I almost straddled a gate at 70mph. After some close calls, I lost some confidence.
"I had such a good run in the downhill yesterday and I felt like I could really build on that, but if anything I went backwards. “
Some of her rivals didn’t fare that well, with three skiers failing to negotiate the downhill course.
But Alcott bounced back with a terrific slalom. Her time of 45.45 was ninth fastest for the course, giving her a total of 2:12.51 for 11th overall.
"I had no pressure on me from the poor downhill, so it was easier to pull out a good slalom. Ten years ago I was a good slalom skier so I tapped into that confidence.
“I was really pleased to equal my best performance at an Olympic Winter Games,” she added. “I’m definitely happy and I’m
going to take that forward with me.
Alcott’s performance today equalled her 11th place finish in the downhill at Turin four years ago. She returns to action in the Super G on Saturday February 20.
