Freestyle Cross-Country Ski Victory for Hughes

Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic hopeful Fiona Hughes kicked off her season with a winning start, taking first place in the junior women’s 10km freestyle event in Bruksvallarna, Sweden. Hughes won a traditional Swedish podium prize which was a selection of local delicacies, including smoked reindeer meat, cheese and sausage.

Lead coach Roy Young said: "I predict we will make history this winter with the best season the British nordic ski team has ever had. Given the optimum age for this demanding sport is 28, the British team is remarkably young to be competing at world level."

Britain’s number one cross country skier and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic hopeful, Andrew Musgrave, raced in Beitostolen, Norway and showed a return to form in the 15km race, scoring Olympic qualification FIS points.

Musgrave kicks off his World Cup campaign in Norway on November 21 before joining the rest of the British team in Gaala, Norway on the 28th and 29th November.
