Team GB Preview - Wednesday 17th February

Three-time Olympian Sarah Lindsay and 19-year-old teammate Elise Christie will be hoping their personal best is good enough for the podium in the women’s 500m short track speed skating competition in the Pacific Colisuem stadium, while Jon Eley and Tom Iverson go in the men’s 1000m heats before teaming up with Jack Whelbourne, Anthony Douglas and Paul Worth for the men’s 5000m relay semi-finals.

Meanwhile on Cypress Mountain 21-year-old Team GB halfpipe snowboarder Ben Kilner will be aiming to repeat the excellent form that saw him claim a bronze medal in last month’s World Cup event in Calgary, which was also the scene of the Team GB Preparation Camp, where Ben has been putting the finishing touches to his routines.

Following a postponement due to adverse weather conditions, Great Britain’s number one female Alpine skier Chemmy Alcott finally gets her 2010 Olympic Campaign under way in Whistler on Wednesday. She will be hoping to go even better than her 11th place finish from Turin 2006 in her favoured event, the women’s downhill.

Team GB’s reigning World Champion men’s curlers will be looking to bounce back quickly after their opening match 4-6 defeat to Sweden on Tuesday. They face France on Wednesday while Team GB’s women curlers, led by 19-year-old skip Eve Muirhead, begin their campaign against China, followed later in the day by Sweden.

Elsewhere at Whistler Olympic Park, Team GB’s pair of young male cross-country skiers Andrew Young and Andrew Musgrave will look to gain further valuable Olympic experience in the men’s individual sprint classic event.
